按：EFF是美国著名的数字民权组织，长期反对科技大厂、商业巨头和美国政府的各种侵犯网民表达自由和隐私权的行径，曾代表“美国政府非法监控受害者“起诉FBI和美国国家安全局(NSA)。
中国总有这样一些人，你一感慨中国网络不自由，它就开始扯“你怎么不讲讲美国棱镜门，你怎么不去救救斯诺登”。那么强烈批判反对美国政府监控计划的EFF，是有资格让这类人闭嘴的——任何脑子正常的人都无法指责EFF是美国政府打压中国的工具。
作为小透明，我原以为信发出去会石沉大海，没想到得到了EFF的热情回应。EFF的staff对贝女士进行了采访，并写了声援文章，可惜有机会让贝女士过目前，贝女士就遭遇了不可描述的事情。

Dear EFF,
I’ve been following your work for years and I am writing to you to ask for your support for Chinese blogger programthink (https://program-think.blogspot.com/ ), who has been sentenced to 7 years in prison by the Chinese government recently.
Programthink (Xiaohuan Ruan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruan_Xiaohuan ) is a legendary Chinese blogger and cybersecurity expert who has been an advocate for digital privacy and a fighter against state censorship and surveillance. He started blogging in 2009 and has introduced privacy enhancing and censorship circumvention techniques to thousands of Chinese netizens. He is also the author of github repo https://github.com/programthink/zhao , which causes the Chinese state to send takedown notices to github (https://qz.com/718465/chinas-fierce-censors-try-a-new-tactic-with-github-asking-nicely ). In 2021, he was arrested by the Chinese government and charged with “inciting subversion of state power." In Feb 2023, he was sentenced to 7 years in prison.
Programthink’s case has been reported by international media such as CNN (https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/29/china/china-blogger-sentenced-program-think-intl-mic-hnk/index.html) and Vice (https://www.vice.com/en/article/z3mvz5/ruan-xiaohuan-trial-china ).

There will be another trial (the final trial in the PRC legal system) of his case on May 22th, 2023. Programthink’s spouse, Mrs. Bei (https://twitter.com/ruanxiaohu32309 ), is also trying to get more attention from the international media in hope that it will help with the trial.
Even in the worst case that external attention could not help with programthink’s case, I still believe that the support from EFF will help him endure the persecution by the Chinese government. EFF’s reputation of fighting for digital freedom everywhere, including in the US, also means the Chinese state media cannot discredit the support by claiming that EFF is a “foreign hostile force attacking China at the direction of the US government”.
